Reflexology
In their natural state our bodies enjoy good health. However, stress, negative thoughts, physical and emotional trauma, poor diet and poor colon health, knock them out of balance making them feel ‘ill at ease’.Reflexology can help us to cope on a physical, mental and emotional level.
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a natural, non–invasive, holistic therapy practiced for over 5,000 years, which can reverse this process by restoring the body's natural balance.
It works on the principle that the anatomy of the body is mirrored in miniature on the feet. By stimulating these reflex areas the reflexologist is able to detect subtle changes in specific points on the feet and clear congestion. In so doing the flow of energy is restored, encouraging the body to heal from within.
Reflexology relaxes mind, body and spirit and so reduces stress. It improves circulation and the elimination of toxins. A more efficient circulation increases energy and vitality.
Reflexology does not attempt to diagnose or cure and so does not intend to replace existing medical treatment but rather complement it.
Who can benefit from reflexology?
Reflexology is suitable for all ages. Sensitively applied it can also be beneficial to both mother and baby during pregnancy.
Reflexology may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions and can assist in recuperation from all types of illness from ‘flu’ to major surgery.
Of course you do not have to wait for disease to manifest itself in your body to enjoy the benefits of reflexology.
What happens when I come for a treatment?
Your first appointment will begin with a consultation when I will ask you about your current health, medication, medical history, lifestyle, diet and emotional well being. All details are held in the strictest confidence.
The treatment, which usually lasts an hour, is performed while you are reclining in a chair. It starts with gentle relaxation massage followed by firm, yet gentle, thumb and finger pressure all over the feet.
During the treatment you may experience some discomfort at some reflexes but it is fleeting and is an indication of congestion or imbalance. These points will receive extra attention to clear any congestion and stimulate healing in the corresponding organ or system of the body.
How will I feel after a treatment?
The effects of reflexology are unique to each person. Most people experience a sense of well-being and relaxation, others find it uplifting and energising. Very occasionally people report of feeling lethargic or emotional. This is transitory and should be seen as a POSITIVE SIGN that unbalanced energy is being readjusted and that the healing process has begun. It is important to make a note of any such changes and report back to me at the next session, as they indicate how your body is responding to the treatment
A course of treatments may be necessary as the benefits of reflexology are cumulative. The total number of sessions and their frequency will depend on your bodys' needs.
After having completed a course of reflexology for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well-being.
